Polite and well mannered, Peter Northcott, originally from Michigan has lived in Birmingham for 10 years. A realtor for 22 years, he specializes in residential and commercial property. Peter is affiliated with LAH Sotheby’s International Realty. He opened Sock Monkey Antiques, 736-B Shades Mountain Plaza in Bluff Park earlier this year. A true Pollyanna, Peter is an unfailing optimist. He is an engaging personality with the objective of keeping it all-simple. Peter is also a Master Gardener since 2015.

Tell me about your antique store? Peter: Since the age of seven I have had an interest in antiques and collectibles. I opened my store in May of this year after having 11 booths in different antique malls around Jefferson County. It is located at Shades Mountain Plaza in Bluff Park.

Do you have a favorite quote? Peter: Turn the other cheek as difficult as that may be.

What is your range of merchandise? Peter: Among the items for sale include furniture, artwork, books, English Country pine pieces, lamps, Asian rugs, decorative accessories, chandeliers, headboards, flatware and hollowware, holiday accessories, garden statuary and planters and iron art.

How many books are for sale? Peter: I have over 1,000 books for sale including cookbooks, romance novels, mysteries, yearbooks, coffee table books and history books.

Tell me about your family? Peter: I was born in Michigan, the middle child of three boys to the late Ann and Gene Northcott. I am a 1988 graduate of Delta College in Bay City, Michigan. My late grandfather Stanley Northcott was the founder of WBCM radio station in Bay City, Michigan. It is still in operation today.

What is your favorite meal? Peter: Even though I was born a Yankee, I love fried chicken, cornbread, mac and cheese, fried okra, fried green tomatoes, sweet potatoes, lima beans and for dessert blueberry cobbler with vanilla ice cream.

Are you a member of any service organizations? Peter: Yes, sir. I have been a member of the Hoover Chamber of Commerce since 2013, Aldridge Gardens, Inverness Kiwanis Club, Alabama Civic Chorale, Inverness Garden Club and Greyhound Rescue.
