The members of Greater 14th Street Baptist Church in Bessemer are committed to outreach ministry.  The church is indeed an asset to the community.

This past Saturday, September 23, members of the Food Outreach Ministry Committee were again busy distributing food boxes to those in need.  Seen working were Lelita Holiness Bonner, Pastor Jiles Burgines, III, Deacon Sean Bonner, Shelia Rice, Deacon John Dedrick, First Lady Lola Burgines, Deacon Earnest Alexander, George Holloway, Deacon James Spraggins, Tanita Moore Jackson, Evangiline Cochrane, Barbara Burton and Tobithean Alexander.

Greater 14th Street Baptist blesses 150 families each month with food boxes.

Pastor Jiles Burgines, III is the minister of the church which was organized in 1900.

The boxes contain canned goods, fruit, mixed nuts, peanut butter and dry goods.

Tobithean Alexander, coordinator of the Food Outreach Ministry Committee stated, “The church started a food giveaway program in 2020.  Our partnership with the Food Bank of Alabama enhances our distribution ability.”

The church is a pilot site for food distribution, and they receive referrals from local agencies.
