Remembering An Upstanding Gentleman
By Robert Burgins, Jr.
Our sincerest thoughts and prayers are with the Chambers family at this time.
Brother Rickney Hunter (G.M. of Chambers Funeral Home, Inc.) was laid to rest this past Friday with a moving service at New Bethlehem Baptist Church (pastored by Rev. Thomas J. Rogers at 1730 11th Ave. North- Bessemer, AL. 35020) and officiated by Rev. Tommie L. Lewis.
The Chambers family have served the Bessemer (Jefferson County) community for years and are like family to many of us.
Always nice with a cool attitude, Mr. Rickney was a Hoover High graduate (Football player) and served the United States through the Air Force, graduated Magna Cum Laude from Alabama A&M with a Bachelor’s in Engineering and was working even further in life to better his career paths while serving as General Manager of Chambers Funeral Home.
A spiritual and resonating eulogy was given by Rev. Reginald Calvert (Pastor of New Jerusalem Baptist Church- 2430 10th Ave. North-Bessemer, AL.) who said, “Though this loss may have caught us off guard, God wasn’t caught off guard by it. But I’m here to tell you, God’s still in control.”
He spoke on the subject of “God Will” from Psalms 121.
Friends, family and others shared fond memories of a young man many said was ahead of his own years byway of wisdom and professionalism. Rickney, a mentor to some, a friend to many and a charismatic human who set an example for his peers and family members.
We say thanks Mr. Rickney B. Hunter for being the upstanding gentleman we knew and loved.
Talk to someone in your time of need and let those around you know just how much they mean to you at all times, and take no one or anything for granted.
We ask for continued prayers, consideration and respect for the Chambers and Hunter families and their loved ones at this time.
