Tuscaloosa, AL – In a move aimed at enhancing the city’s infrastructure and planning, Mayor Walt Maddox has announced the appointment of Michael Gardiner as the City Engineer, effective December 18. Gardiner, who has been a valuable member of the city’s engineering team since 2020, previously served as the Assistant City Engineer before taking on the role of Acting City Engineer. 

Before joining the City of Tuscaloosa, Gardiner contributed his expertise to McGiffert and Associates, LLC, where he excelled in the role of project manager. With a proven track record in engineering and a commitment to advancing community development, Gardiner’s appointment marks a pivotal moment for Tuscaloosa. 

Mayor Maddox expressed his confidence in Gardiner’s ability to lead, stating, “Mike follows in the footsteps of leaders such as Woolsey Finnell, Joe Robinson, and David Griffin. The Office of the City Engineer designs Tuscaloosa’s future, and I believe that Mike is the right leader at the right moment for our community.” 

Gardiner, a graduate of the University of Alabama with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering technology, brings a wealth of knowledge to his new role. His academic background is complemented by his professional qualifications as a Licensed Professional Engineer and a Licensed Professional Land Surveyor. Additionally, Gardiner is an active member of both the American Society of Engineers and the Alabama Society of Professional Land Surveyors. 

As the City Engineer, Gardiner will play a crucial role in shaping the city’s landscape and overseeing various projects that contribute to its growth and development. His experience, combined with his commitment to innovation and community engagement, positions him as a key figure in realizing Tuscaloosa’s future vision.
