Tuscaloosa, AL – On Friday, February 9, the City of Tuscaloosa celebrated a significant milestone with the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the newly renovated Rock Quarry Landing Boat Dock. Attended by Mayor Walt Maddox, Councilor Norman Crow, and Lakes Manager James LaFoy, the event marked the culmination of the Elevate Tuscaloosa project that commenced construction in the Spring of 2023 and concluded in January 2024.

Lake Tuscaloosa, a vital asset for the city, has played a crucial role in fostering growth, attracting prestigious entities like the University of Alabama and world-renowned companies such as Mercedes-Benz. Mayor Walt Maddox acknowledged the lake’s instrumental role, stating, “We’ve been very fortunate as a City to have this amazing asset, and it took a lot of vision to make that happen.”

The enhancements made to the Rock Quarry Landing Boat Dock are geared towards providing the community with easier access to the lake, ensuring a safer and more enjoyable experience for boaters. The addition of aluminum boat docks and safety improvements reflects the city’s commitment to continually improve recreational facilities for its residents.

During the ceremony, Councilor Norman Crow expressed optimism for the future, emphasizing the city’s commitment to expanding opportunities for its residents. “The future is bright,” Crow stated, “We will keep expanding opportunities so we can keep seeing more people enjoying the lake.”
