It is understood that college football is “King” in the state of Alabama.  High school football is held in the same reverential regard and has the same impact on our society.

Bessemer Academy, located at 1705 4th Avenue, SW is no exception.

Committed to maintaining that standard, S & G Waldrop Electric of Bessemer, a local electrical contractor recently contributed to the significant lighting improvements at Bessemer Academy’s football field.

S & G Waldrop has been serving the Southeast for 43 years.

Adam Waldrop, one of the owners of S & G Waldrop stated, “We were proud to offer a solution to the stadium lighting issues at Bessemer Academy.”  He further stated, “The existing lighting was 20 plus-years old.”

Following a routine, reactive maintenance call to work on lights before Bessemer Academy’s season kicked-off, it was discovered that an upgrade was a great solution to an older lighting system.  S & G Waldrop has partnered with Gary Steelman, Southeast regional manager with ASD Lighting Corp. based in Houston, Texas and together they developed a system and plan to offer a feasible solution to a high-priced sports lighting issue.

The lighting application to retrofit the sport’s lighting fields considers several factors when upgrading to LED.  A leading benefit is the energy efficiency of the LED lighting and the brightness and quality of the new lighting.  Other factors include the longevity and durability of these new sports lighting fixtures.

The plan was to install affordable, state-of-the-art LED sports lighting fixtures.

With the help of Matt Waldrop, another owner of S & G Waldrop Electric, they went to work to upgrade.  Matt has successfully installed and upgraded over 100 new sports lighting projects.  The project was completed in less than two weeks.

Headmaster Tom Hannah who is also the basketball coach, was more than pleased with the product and Waldrop’s professionalism.  He is excited about the upcoming football season.
