“I think Tech Changemakers is an awesome program for our youth and it simply needs to be expanded” said Jefferson County 4-H extension agent Bridget Helms-Harris.

This past week students of the Kimbrough Homes residence were educated through the 4-H Program’s technical installment.

The 4-H Program partners with various housing authorities throughout Jefferson County to teach its residents useful mechanisms in our ever-growing worlds of professionalism and technology expertise.

This particular session found students learning to digitally build resumes along with performing workplace interview enactments. This plays a big part within our youth, due to the fact that this upcoming spring will see such students sharing what they’ve learned with elders within neighboring communities.

Auburn University Program Assistant, Mrs. Paige Naylor told us “This is a national program that’s been granted through Verizon. This year it is all about workforce development to train the youth to go out in their communities and be vital as knowledge sharers from what they have learned through the exercises they will partake in here”.

Excited and diligent performing such exercises, students also wore self-made professional name tags during this session.

”This has been the first year we’ve had this program extended to our housing authority locations in Jefferson County. It has been such a perfect fit as an opportunity for many, especially being that one of the housing authority’s main platforms is workforce development. So, we look forward to giving the kids tools that will further exemplify how we all help each other despite age groups” 4-H Development Coordinator, Mrs. Izette McNealy told us.

In bridging the digital gap, this program will have its students present what they have learned to elders of their communities due to the realization that one of six working class Americans are unable to use email, web search or other basic online tools. This journey within 4-H looks to change such statistics with great courses and lessons that will benefit us all.
